National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day: May 4

NORTHVIEW MENTAL HEALTH TEAM Recognizes
National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day:  May 4, 2017

Did you know?
–   One in five children suffer from a mental health challenge. Yet less than 20 percent of those affected get
the supports and services they need.

–   Over 50 percent of students aged 14 or older with severe mental health challenges drop out of high
school – the highest dropout rate of any disability group.

-Mental health challenges get better with care that is individualized, family-driven, youth-guided, trauma-informed, coordinated and comprehensive.

The World Health Organization defines mental health as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.
National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day seeks to raise awareness about the importance of children’s’ behavioral health and to show that positive mental health is essential to a child’s healthy development from birth.  (facts from Association of Children’s Mental Health, www.acmh-mi.org)

Northview Public Schools maintains strong partnerships with local behavioral health organizations
recognizing the importance of integrating mental health and education for all youth, so all students are
successful in school and in life.

Northview Mental Health Team includes master’s level trained clinicians at all buildings
who are ready to provide prevention services, support, direction, and resources for
Northview students and families. Northview also partners with high quality resources in
Kent County to reduce barriers and increase rapid access to the help our children and
families need.

Call your local Northview school to talk with a mental health professional.
