Here are Northview’s YOUTH ENRICHMENT activities that expand your child’s learning beyond the school day with a variety of fun classes from which to choose.

Tuition and Refund Policies

Tuition and Refund Policies: 1. FEES cover instructional costs only unless otherwise indicated. 2. EARLY REGISTRATION is urged to ensure having each class offered. It is necessary that a minimum number enroll. We do not send out confirmations or reminders; contact our office to verify receipt of registration and payment. 3. REFUNDS: A full refund is made if the class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment or if the class fills before your registration is received. If you withdraw from a class up to three full working days in advance of its starting date, you receive a full refund minus a $10 processing fee. NO REFUND if you cancel on the day the class begins. NO REFUNDS are made after the class has started, regardless of attendance.

Learn to Knit (Ages 8-15)

Learn how to loom knit and discover a relaxing hobby you’ll enjoy for a lifetime! Learn the basics of loom knitting while creating a hat. This class is designed to develop skills in loom knitting while creating lasting friendships and development of a life long art. (Class is limited to 15 students and materials provided).

Learn to Crochet (Ages 8-15)

Did you know crocheting is a stress reliever? Learn how to crochet and discover a relaxing hobby you’ll enjoy for a lifetime! This class will teach you basic stitches and the proper tools to use. Completing the class will provide you with knowledge to read patterns and make many items. (Class is limited to 15 students and materials provided).

My Family History (Ages 8-15)

Have you ever wondered if you are connected to someone famous? Do you want to get started on that journey of discovering family roots? Join us in that adventure! You will end with a book that showcases your work for the week. (Class is limited to 12 students and materials provided).

Location: Northview High School, Media Center Computer Lab

Phone Photography (Ages 12-15)

Do you love taking photographs using your iPhone or Android phone but would like to take your photographs to the next level? Come explore the world of “Phone Photography”! Learn how to compose eye catching photos, photograph using natural lighting, simple backdrops, and create short stop motion videos. (Class is limited to 25 students and materials provided. A smartphone with a camera and the ability to download apps is required.)

Fairy Houses and Gnome Gardens

Ages 4.5 – 9 years

Come join us for a week of exploring the natural (and magical) world around us by creating Herb gardens and Houses for Gnomes and Fairies! Students will start by creating their own clay Fairy/Gnome house or castle that will be under-glazed and fired for them to take home by Thursday. They will also learn about different herbs and plants to create a garden for the magical critters to visit. The fairies and gnomes will need furniture as well for their houses, so students will enjoy being creative with natural elements and creating accessories for the herb gardens! All abilities are welcomed. (Class is limited to 20 students and materials provided. Two age groups per sessions)

Age group 4.5-6 years old and 7-9 years old, please indicate this on the registration page.

Kids Can Cook! (Ages 8-17)

Students will learn kitchen basics, safety and nutrition in this fun filled two hour class. All students will participate in the preparation of fun and healthy snacks. Learning how to feed yourself delicious and healthy food is a basic life skill everyone needs. (Class is limited to 20 students and materials provided.)

Session 2: July 12th – July 13th  Ages 8-12

Time: 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm

Lights, Camera, Action

(Ages 12-15)

Have you ever wondered how those cool video of Lego’s, action figures or cars move around with out anyone touching them? Wonder no more. Learn the art of Stop Motion Movie making; this four day course will introduce students to the fine art of creating films, using I pads and creative materials.

Creating stop motion animation is not difficult; it takes time, patience, creativity and fun. This makes a fantastic hobby that many people choose as a career. Students will use their creativity and discipline to make these amazing films one picture at a time. We provide all materials; you provide the ideas and imagination to make the objects come alive. (Class is limited to 15 students and materials provided.)

Tech Time (Grades 5-8)

Do you love technology and just want to know more? Come and learn about technology now and in the future. We will also have an introduction to coding, internet etiquette/safety and special guest to learn even more. (Class is limited to 12 students and materials provided.)

Location: Northview High School, Fish Bowl

Adventure Camp (Ages 12-15)

Explore your wild side and experience a fun filled week of outdoor education. This camp is designed to provide hands on learning activities that provide students with the basic understanding of camping. Topics will include map and compass reading, constructing a safe camp fire, camp stove operations, outdoor cooking, outdoor games and much more. (Class is limited to 15 students and materials provided.)

Time: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Cost: $70.00

Location: Northview High School, PE Classroom & Outside

Hunters Safety

The Rockford Sportsman’s Club offers three hunter safety classes each year, in April, August and September. Students must attend all three sessions to receive their certificate. The cost of the class is $10.00. A donation of $5.00 maximum is also requested to help defray the cost of hot dog and chips lunch served on Saturday.

Session 3: September 24th – September 29th

Monday & Wednesday 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Saturday 9:00 am – 5:00pm

Cost: $10.00 per session

Location: Rockford Sportsman’s Club

Boater Safety (Ages 12-16)

The Michigan Safe Boating Course, offered by the Kent County Sheriff’s Department, covers all the laws, ethics, and safety procedures needed to legally and safely operate a boat or PWC (Jet Ski/Wave Runner) in Michigan. Much emphasis will be on water safety and “drown proofing” the student. The Michigan Boating Safety Certificate is also acceptable in most other states. (Class is required to have 20 students)

Who needs this course?

Anyone born after 1978 who wants to operate a personal water craft

12-16 year olds who want to drive a motorboat alone

Everyone who is concerned about the laws and how to operate a vessel safely on the waterways

Requirements for the class:

Bring a pencil or pen to each class

Must be 12 years old

Camp Dates: May 1st & May 3rd

Time: 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Cost: Free
