Northview has partnered with Canvas to provide a common remote learning platform for students in all grade levels.
All virtual learning courses will include both synchronous (learning in which students and teacher are engaging in learning at the same time) and synchronous (learning that occurs without real time interaction) learning. Students must commit to all parts of the learning to be successful in Northview’s virtual courses.
To the extent possible, all virtual learning courses will be led by Northview teachers using Canvas. Courses will follow the Northview curriculum and assessment standards. Due to availability and demand constraints, some courses may not be offered or may utilize an online vendor, such as Michigan Virtual. Students will work with their school counselor to determine the best schedule and course fit.
We know that a hybrid/in-person schedule is particularly challenging for families with young children. That is why we are partnering with the YMCA to offer FREE all-day child care every Wednesday beginning on August 26, 2020. Wednesday child care will be held at the Wolverine Worldwide facility in Belmont and transportation is available if needed. Wednesday all-day care is in addition to the regular before/after school child care that will be offered Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
We know that this is a lot to take in as you think about your child’s education. After reviewing the proposed Return to School documents and the FAQ video above, you may still have questions about the 2020-21 school year. Please use this form to continue to submit your questions. We will provide regular FAQ updates.
We are excited to be able to offer a 100% virtual learning option for any DK-12th grade student. Northview virtual courses will be taught by Northview teachers and follow the Northview curriculum standards, with some possible exceptions in grades 7-12 (based on demand and availability).
Virtual courses start on August 25 using our new Canvas Learning Management System.
If you are interested in participating in the in-person hybrid option, no action is needed. Registration for 100% online learning is now closed.
In order to support remote learning, all students will need access to an internet-enabled device. Through the passing of the May 2020 bond, Northview is able to provide a device for every student. Please complete the following survey by Sunday, August 23 to allow for distribution of a device to your student(s). One form per student.
